Menstrual Health & Wellness

Welcome to your safe space for women's wellness, where we honor, support, and empower our bodies through every phase of our cycles. At Mended Souls, we believe holistic healing isn't just a trend it's a lifestyle. Here, you'll find practical tips, natural remedies, and resources to help you feel your best during your menstrual cycle.

Menstrual Health Tips

Avoid Cold Drinks

Drinking cold beverages before and during your cycle can increase cramping and slow digestion. Opt for warm teas, room temperature water, or herbal blends. Soups rich in iron and magnesium can be beneficial by helping replenish lost nutrients during cycle.

Eat Nourishing, Warm Foods

Fuel your body with whole, warm meals like soups, roasted veggies, and nutrient-dense grains. Add ingredients like ginger, turmeric, and sea moss for extra minerals and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Limit Sugary Foods Before & During Your Cycle

Excess sugar can worsen cramping and trigger inflammation, making your cycle more uncomfortable. But beyond that, processed sugar isn’t good for you on a regular day either. It’s been linked to:

  • Chronic inflammation in the body, which can lead to joint pain, bloating, and fatigue.
  • Pancreatic strain, increasing your risk of insulin resistance and diabetes.
  • Skin issues like acne, breakouts, and premature aging.
  • Vaginal health problems by feeding yeast and bad bacteria, increasing your chances of infections and imbalances.
  • And it can disrupt your overall wellness, leading to mood swings, sluggishness, and hormone imbalance.

When cravings hit, reach for natural alternatives like fresh fruit, dates, smoothies with sea moss, or a cup of our calming Women’s Wellness Tea instead.

Keep Your Feet Covered

An old-school but wise tip — keeping your feet warm helps maintain proper blood flow and reduces menstrual pain, especially during colder months or on tile/wood floors. Cold feet can constrict blood vessels and make cramping worse.

At the same time, when the weather is nice and the ground is warm, grounding (or earthing) — walking barefoot outside on grass, soil, or natural surfaces — can be incredibly beneficial. It helps regulate your nervous system, reduces inflammation, lowers stress, and reconnects you with the earth’s natural energy.

Just be sure to keep your feet warm afterward to maintain balance.

Stretch & Practice Gentle Yoga

Light stretching and yoga poses like child's pose, butterfly stretch, and seated forward fold can ease lower back pain and improve circulation during your cycle.

Use Chemical-Free Pads & Tampons

Many mainstream products contain chemicals, fragrances, and plastics that disrupt your body’s natural pH and can cause irritation. Choose organic, chemical-free menstrual products or try a menstrual cup for a healthier, eco-friendly option.

Another natural alternative some women practice is free bleeding — choosing to menstruate without the use of traditional pads, tampons, or cups, allowing your body to bleed naturally into breathable, dark-colored underwear, period panties, or while in a safe, comfortable space.

In many indigenous and ancient cultures, free bleeding was not only a normal practice but also a sacred ritual. Women would gather in special spaces like ‘Moon Lodges’ or ‘Red Tents’ to rest, reflect, and bleed freely away from the demands of daily life. These gatherings honored the natural rhythms of the female body and encouraged emotional and spiritual healing during menstruation.

While modern lifestyles can make this practice challenging, some women today are reclaiming it as a way to reconnect with their cycle, reduce irritation, avoid harmful chemicals, and honor the natural process of menstruation. If you’re curious, start slow — perhaps at home on lighter flow days or overnight — and see how your body responds.

"Your cycle is sacred. Nourish yourself, love yourself, honor yourself."

Natural Remedies You'll Love

Simple, Time-Tested Ways to Support Your Cycle Naturally

When it comes to menstrual health, our grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and countless cultures around the world have leaned on the earth’s natural offerings to ease discomfort and restore balance. These gentle, holistic remedies help support your body during your cycle — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Here are a few we love and recommend:

Sea Moss Gel

Packed with over 92 essential minerals, sea moss is a powerhouse for women’s health. It helps balance hormones, replenishes the body with vital nutrients lost during menstruation, reduces inflammation, and supports digestion and skin health. Add a spoonful to your smoothies, teas, or take it straight from the jar.

Herbal Baths

A warm bath with herbs like lavender, chamomile, rose petals, and yarrow can help relax tight muscles, ease cramps, and calm the mind. Soaking during your cycle can also help release emotional tension and ground your energy. For added benefits, sprinkle in sea salt or a few drops of essential oils.

Castor Oil Packs

Used for generations, castor oil packs are placed on the lower abdomen to help relieve cramps, reduce bloating, and support detoxification of the uterus. The warmth from the pack encourages blood flow and eases tension in the pelvic area. Use a clean cloth soaked in castor oil, place it on your stomach, cover with a towel, and apply gentle heat for 20–30 minutes.

Herbal Teas & Infusions

Soothing herbal teas like Women’s Wellness Tea, raspberry leaf, ginger, and nettle help reduce cramps, calm the digestive system, and replenish iron levels. Drink warm teas throughout your cycle to stay hydrated and balanced.

Warm Compresses & Heating Pads

Never underestimate the power of warmth. Placing a warm compress or heating pad on your abdomen can help ease cramps by relaxing muscles and increasing blood flow.

Ginger Poultice for Period Pain

Used in many traditional healing practices, a ginger poultice is a natural way to reduce cramps, inflammation, and lower abdominal discomfort. Ginger has powerful anti-inflammatory and muscle-relaxing properties that can ease uterine contractions and promote blood flow.

How to use it:

Grate fresh ginger and wrap it in a thin, clean cloth or cheesecloth. Dip the bundle in warm water (not boiling), squeeze out excess liquid, and place it gently over your lower abdomen. Cover with a towel and leave on for 15–20 minutes. The warmth and natural oils from the ginger help relieve cramps, bloating, and tension.

For an extra boost, sip a warm cup of ginger tea with lemon and honey while you rest.

Grounding (Earthing)

Whenever possible, take a moment to walk barefoot on grass, soil, or sand. Grounding reconnects you with the earth’s natural energy, reduces inflammation, balances the nervous system, and calms the mind — all of which can ease menstrual discomfort.

Sis, listen to your body.

Every woman’s cycle is unique. What works for one may not work for another, and that’s okay. The goal is to create space for rest, nourishment, and healing — however that looks for you.
